Amundi Asset Management has strengthened its emerging market debt team with the appointment of fund manager Esther Law.
Law joins from Pioneer Investments and will be responsible for local debt portfolios. She will report to Sergei Strigo, head of emerging market debt management, global bond and currency management.
At Pioneer, Law used to run the company’s Emerging Markets Local Currency Debt fund along with Hakan Aksoy, who is also in charge of the Pioneer Funds EM Bond Local Currencies and the Pioneer Institutional EM Bond Local Currency funds.
Previously, Law was a director in emerging markets strategy for Société Générale and a senior EM strategist for the Royal Bank of Scotland.
In order to strengthen further its emerging market debt expertise, Amundi also appointed Abbas Ameli-Renani as emerging markets strategist, reporting to Philippe Ithurbide, head of research, analysis and strategy.
Abbas joined Amundi in 2014 from RBS Markets & International Banking where he was in charge of CEEMEA fixed income strategy. Prior to that, he worked at RBS as a G10 FX strategist.
The addition of Law marks a busy period of activity for Amundi, which in November partnered with US-based First Eagle Investment Management to launch a new global multi-asset fund.
