Hong Kong-based Asia Frontier Capital has hired senior analyst Ruchir Desai to help support the workload of its CEO and lead fund manager.
The appointment of Desai, who served as a senior analyst at private equity group HandsOn Venture, comes at the same time as Stephen Friel has been hired as a marketing director.
In his new capacity, Desai will work closely on the investment strategy for the AFC Asia Frontier fund, and will report to CEO and fund manager Thomas Hugger (pictured).
Commenting on the appointment, Hugger said: ‘I can now better focus my energy on managing the AFC Asia Frontier Fund and continue generating strong returns for our investors.’
Hugger added the increased research provided by Desai will allow a greater range of stock coverage and the creation of enhanced screening tools.
Friel, who previously a statistical officer at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, has been taken on board by Asia Fronter Cpital in order to help communicate the fund’s direction with investors.
In the year to the end of July 2013, the AFC Asia Frontier USD-A has returned 10.56% against the benchmark MSCI Frontier Markets Asia TR return of 15.22% in USD terms.
