Ex-Julius Baer EAM team head joins EFG

Ex-Julius Baer EAM team head joins EFG

Thomas Jost, Julius Baer’s former Southeast Asia and Pacific head of external asset managers has joined EFG Bank.

Based in Singapore, Jost will head the independent asset managers business at EFG, with a focus on Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia.

He will report to Oliver Balmelli, deputy chief executive officer and co-head private banking Singapore.

Jost worked for seven years at Julius Baer, moving from Credit Suisse in 2011. At Credit Suisse, his last held role was relationship manager, based in Switzerland.

‘This new hire outlines EFG's growth strategy in the IAM business,’ EFG said in a statement.

Despite cutting its Asia staff count by 100 last year, EFG has been ramping up its relationship manager (RM) hires since the acquisition of BSI’s wealth units in Singapore and Hong Kong in 2016. It hired over 10 RMs in Singapore last year, and plans to hire more.

EFG brought over most of the BSI employees in the Singapore unit and a smaller number in Hong Kong, and expanded its investment team to cover Indonesian and Southeast Asian securities with the BSI integration.
