Based on funds available for sale in Singapore and Hong Kong, Citywire Asia reveals the top five sectors that have received the most global inflows during the three months of August to September 2016.

Over the week, we will be revealing the funds that have received the most inflows within the top five sectors. We begin with Equity – Global Emerging Markets today.

5. Comgest Growth Emerging Markets USD Acc, Comgest

Managers: Emil Wolter (AAA rated); Charles Biderman ; David Raper (AAA rated); Wojciech Stanislawski (A rated)

Net inflows: $296.66 million

The fifth prize in the Equity – Global Emerging Markets category goes to Comgest Growth Emerging Markets fund, managed by Emil Wolter, Charles Biderman, David Raper and Wojciech Stanislawski.

As of September 30, the fund’s top three holdings were Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (7.4%), China Mobile (5.4%) and NetEase (5.2%); while its top three sectors were information technology (25.5%), financials (18%) and consumer staples (15.8%).

The investment objective of this emerging markets fund is to achieve capital appreciation by creating a professionally managed portfolio consisting of what, in the opinion of the investment managers, are high quality long-term growth companies based or operating in emerging markets.

The Ireland-domiciled fund is available for sale in Singapore and it was launched in 2003.

4. JPM Emerging Markets Equity A Dis USD, JP Morgan Asset Management

Managers: Austin Forey (+ rated) and Leon Eidelman (+ rated)

Net inflows: $561.73 million

JPM Emerging Markets Equity fund receives the fourth prize for this category. it is co-managed by Austin Forey and Leon Eidelman.

At the end of September 2016, the fund’s top three investing regions were China (23.3%), India (21.2%) and South Africa (14.2%); while top three sectors were financials (29.1%), information technology (26.1%) and consumer discretionary (14.8%).

The fund's objective is to provide long-term capital growth by investing primarily in emerging markets companies.

At least 67% of the sub-fund's total assets, excluding cash and cash equivalents, will be invested in equity securities of companies that are domiciled in, or carrying out the main part of their economic activity in, an emerging market country. Debt securities, cash and cash equivalents may be held on an ancillary basis.

Launched in 1994, the Luxembourg-domiciled fund is available for sale in Singapore and Hong Kong.

3. Goldman Sachs Em Markets Equity Pf Base USD, Goldman Sachs Asset Management

Managers: Prashant Khemka (AAA rated)

Net inflows: $573.05 million

The second runner-up in this category is Goldman Sachs Em Markets Equity fund, run by Prashant Khemka.

As of October 31, the fund’s top three holdings were Tencent Holdings (4.7%), TSMC (3%) and Ping An Insurance (2.7%).

The portfolio will invest at least two thirds of its net assets in equity and/or equity related transferable securities and permitted funds which provide exposure to companies that are domiciled in, or which derive the predominant proportion of their revenues or profits from emerging markets.

The Luxembourg-domiciled fund was launched in 1997 and is available for sale in Singapore.

2. Aviva Investors Emerging Markets Equity Inc B USD, Avivia Investors

Net inflows: $695.94 million

The first runner-up in this sector is Aviva Investors Emerging Markets Equity fund, managed by Will Ballard.

The fund’s top three holdings were Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (6.7%), Samsung Electronics (3.5%) and Shenzhen International Group (3%); while its top three sectors were consumer goods (25.9%), financials (23%) and technology (12.1%).

The fund is a sub-fund of Aviva Investors Emerging Markets Equity Inc A USD.

The sub-fund invests mainly in equities of companies in developing or emerging markets. Specifically, at all times, the sub-fund invests at least two thirds of total net assets in equities and equity-related securities of companies that have their registered office, or do most of their business, in developing or emerging markets anywhere in the world.

The Luxembourg-domiciled fund was launched in 1993 and is registered for sale in Singapore.

The sub-fund was launched in 2010. It is available in Hong Kong via Luxembourg.
