2017 was a positive year for the mixed assets flexible USD sector which saw 12 straight months of net inflows totalling $8.9 billion. Optimism in the asset class continued into 2018 with investors adding net new money of $7.6 billion in the first quarter.

The Schroder ISF global multi-asset income fund saw net redemptions of $154.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2017 but tides turned in its favour in first quarter of this year with the fund seeing net new assets of $3.2 billion.

BGF emerging markets local currency bond fund accounted for nearly half (48.3%) the net inflows into the emerging markets global local currency bond sector in the first quarter of 2018.

 

The fund attracted $4.3 billion, lifting its assets under management to $7.6 billion as of end March 2018. The fund is jointly managed by a team of three Citywire + rated managers - Sergio Trigo Paz, Laurent Develay, and Michal Wozniak.

Flows into the APAC ex-Japan equity sector slowed down considerably in March this year. While the sector saw net inflows of $4.9 billion and $4.3 billion in January and February respectively, it only netted $1.2 billion in March.
 

The Schroder ISF Asian Opportunity A USD fund saw a surge in inflows despite underperforming the benchmark (MSCI AC Asia ex Japan Net TR) by 170 basis points over three months to March 2018.

The fund gathered net subscriptions of $701.6 million in the first quarter of 2018, thrice more than what it collected in the previous quarter ($231.0 million).

In the first quarter of 2018, inflows into the global equity sector were led by Morgan Stanley Global Opportunity A USD fund.

From January to March this year, the fund drew in $1.5 billion net new money to end off the quarter with assets under management of $5.1 billion.

Under the watch of Kristian Heugh, a Citywire AAA-rated manager, the fund outperformed its benchmark (MSCI All Country World Index) by 18.1 percentage points over one year to end March 2018.

The Global Emerging Markets Equity sector saw net withdrawals of $66.1 million in the last quarter of 2017. Investors have since shown renewed confidence in the sector with the injection of $18.6 billion fresh money in the first quarter of 2018.

82.4% of funds in the sector drew in net new money with each fund averaging inflows of $187.4 million.
