GAM has hired an equity market veteran from rivals Henderson Global Investors to create a new management role to help bolsters its equity operations, the company has announced.
Matthew Beesley will become head of equities at GAM starting from 6 March 2017 and will work with the equity team on optimising performance and risk management. Also in his new role he will strengthen relationships between the group's sales, marketing and operation teams.
Before joining GAM, Beesley worked as head of global equities at Henderson. In a statement to Citywire Selector, Henderson Global Investors said it had communicated Beesley's planned departure at the end of 2016.
'We advised clients at the end of last year that Matt Beesley would be leaving Henderson because there was no role in the new organisation for him. A number of his team management responsibilities have been given to Alex Crooke, head of global equity income,' it said.
Prior to his role at Henderson, Beesley was employed at different portfolio management roles at Trinity Street Asset Management, JP Morgan Asset Management and Mercury Asset Management/Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.
Commenting on the new appointment, Alexander Friedman, CEO of the group, said:
‘We are happy to welcome Matthew Beesley, a globally renowned equity specialist. His experience and success in construction and implementation of investment strategies will add great value to our equity offering.’
