ING loses seven more EMD managers to Neuberger Berman

ING loses seven more EMD managers to Neuberger Berman

US asset management firm Neuberger Berman has snapped up seven more names from Dutch asset manager ING Investment Management's emerging market debt team.

Of the 22 people Neuberger Berman has hired for its emerging market debt team, 19 have joined from ING, which includes the Dutch firm's former EMD chief Rob Drijkoningen and Gorky Urquieta, as reported by Citywire Global in January.

Former colleagues Jennifer Gorgoll and Nish Popat have now joined the pair's EMD team, with Gorgoll working with Drijkoningen in Atlanta and Popat with Urquieta in The Hague.

Citywire Global can also exclusively reveal the names of the five additional portfolio managers that will work from offices in US, Europe and Asia.

Mike Reyes (based in Singapore), Sukhjeet Reehal (based in The Hague), Ram Bala Chandran (based in Atlanta) will join the group as senior portfolio managers. Ian Chong (based in Singapore) and Thijs Verheijden (based in The Hague), will also join the group as portfolio managers.

They will join Bart van der Made, Raoul Luttik and Prashant Singh who also made the move from ING to the US asset manager alongside Drijkoningen and Urquieta earlier this year.

The ING team previously managed $16 billion in assets and worked on hard and local currency mandates, as well as EMD corporate bonds and dedicated Asian debt strategies.

Sylvain de Rujiter is currently acting as ING's head of the emerging market debt team following these departures. Jaco Rouw, a fixed income and currency specialist at ING, has also been added to the Dutch group's EMD team.

Neuberger Berman has also added six credit analysts and four economists in order to support its new emerging markets debt team.
