Kamet Capital Partners, a single family office launched in August, has hired Derek Tay as chief operating officer, Citywire Asia has learnt.
Tay joins from Morgan Stanley, where he was executive director, head of Southeast Asia equity sales trading, for four years.
Commenting on his big move, Tay told Citywire Asia, ‘Banks being banks, they like individuals that are specialists as much as they want staff to have broader expertise. I feel that when working in Singapore and in banks, you inevitably become very myopic in what you do.’
As the lead for equities, Tay works closely with CEO and CIO Kerry Goh on investment ideas, trading and execution and monitoring research from external providers.
Based in Singapore, Kamet Capital has eight employees, of which three are investment professionals led by the principal and chairman, and four mid-and-back office function personnel.
The single family office manages the investments and wealth of a private entrepreneur from North Asia.
