Pimco has appointed Robin Shanahan and Peter Strelow as co-chief operating officers. They will report to CEO Emmanuel Roman. They will replace Pimco’s president Jay Jacobs, who is set to retire on September 30. Strelow is currently the global head, funds and chief administrative officer and Shanahan is the global head of human resources.
In another C-suite appointment, BNP Paribas Asset Management’s Indian arm – BNP Paribas Mutual Fund – has named Ritesh Jain as its CIO with immediate effect. Prior to this, Jain was CIO of Tata Mutual Fund, based in Mumbai. He reports to Anand Shah, deputy CEO and head of investments.
Meanwhile, OMGI is expanding its EM coverage. Nick Payne, Salman Siddiqui and Liz Fernandes will form the business’ new global emerging markets equity desk. Led by Payne, the trio joins from Nomura Asset Management, where they worked together for three years, most recently on the Nomura Global Emerging Markets Equity Fund. Payne will report to OMGI’s CEO, Richard Buxton. The move comes as OMGI is set to bring the management of the Old Mutual Global Emerging Markets Fund in-house.
Jupiter has added two emerging market fixed income analysts to support Alejandro Arevalo’s newly-established emerging market debt strategy. Nachu Chockalingam joined Jupiter on 5 June from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan where she was an EM corporates portfolio manager. Reza Karim joins from Henderson Global Investors where he was an EM research analyst, covering corporate and sovereign credit in the Central Eastern Europe Middle East & Africa region.
In private banking, Mark Smallwood, former managing director at Deutsche Bank WM, is now managing director at newly-established Confidentem Private Office in Singapore. At Deutsche Bank, he was responsible for several Singapore-based coverage teams reporting to the North Asia office. He also had oversight of the EAM team.
