Standard Life Investments has launched an ‘enhanced’ global emerging markets strategy designed to leverage on the expertise of its emerging markets and multi-asset teams.
The Luxembourg-domiciled SLI Enhanced Diversified Global Emerging Markets Strategy (EDGEM) was formally launched on December and will be run on a team-managed approach which combines stock selection and top-down macroeconomic analysis.
It is aimed at institutional investors with the aim of providing a wider breadth of investment opportunities and increased diversification compared to traditional approaches.
The fund is designed to generate GEM-like equity returns over an investment cycle with less than 70% of the volatility of the GEM index and a substantially higher risk-adjusted return.
Commenting on the launch, David Cumming, head of equities for Standard Life Investments, said: ‘We have seen an increased demand for GEM equity in recent years and this is a very innovative approach for investing in emerging markets.’
‘Through EDGEM we can achieve diversification without compromising stock selection and we can look beyond both region and asset class for return opportunities.’
In addition to the multi-asset and emerging market investment specialists, SLI said it had assigned a dedicated team to monitor and control risk across the EDGEM strategy.
