Standard Chartered expands North Asia team

Standard Chartered announced its latest round of hires, bringing total number of experienced bankers and advisors it has appointed in North Asia since Q4 2016 to over 50.

This new series of appointments, the British multinational bank said, will help to further enhance its client coverage across the greater China and North Asia (GCNA) region.

Based in Hong Kong, Jack Wu and Pauline Ko join the bank in the capacity of managing directors, market heads, reporting to Vivian Chan, regional head for private banking, GCNA.

Bringing to the firm over 27 years of private and commercial banking experience, WU is a veteran banker having worked in global financial institutions including UBS, and Credit Suisse. He was most recently managing director and team head for greater China at HSBC Private Bank.

With a deep understanding of the Chinese markets and expertise in investment management Ko, too, brings a wealth of experience to the position.

She has held a number of leadership roles in other global banking institutions over the last 22 years, such as Merrill Lynch and Julius Baer. Most recently Ko was managing director, group head of greater China at Deutsche Bank.

‘Standard Chartered is investing in growing our private banking business, and we are seeing significant momentum in attracting senior industry practitioners,’ said Didier von Daeniken, global head of private banking and wealth management.

Other leadership roles added to the private banking team include Pitman Lau, managing director and team leader, who joins the bank from BNP Paribas, and Reggie Cheung, executive director and team leader, who was most recently with HSBC.

The the bank’s investment advisory team is also strengthened with the appointments of Chris Tang, Kwok-On Fung and Chris Tong, as executive directors for investment advisory.
