UBS hires Malaysia market head

UBS hires Malaysia market head

UBS Global Wealth Management has hired Connie Ong as market head for Malaysia, effective 2 July.

She will report to the wealth management chief of Southeast Asia, August Hatecke.

The previous Malaysia market head, Henk de Glint, will remain in the team as senior advisor, sources told Citywire Asia.

Ong was most recently the market head for Malaysia at Bank of Singapore, where she co-managed the market coverage for two years.

Prior to that, she was in Standard Chartered Bank for nine years, starting as head of financial institutions at the wholesale bank in Malaysia in 2007.

In 2009, she relocated to Singapore to be head of investment advisory, Southeast Asia for the private bank. She became a desk head covering Malaysia, Thailand and Brunei clients the following year.

Ong comes from an institutional investment background in Malaysia. She was CEO at Alliance Capital Asset Management, chief investment officer in KLCS Asset Management and a fund manager at Prudential Assurance.

She started her career in finance as an analyst and salesperson at a local brokerage, TA Securities.

UBS reorganised its Southeast Asia team at the end of 2016, delayering the structure such that regional desk heads and market heads could report more directly to senior management.

The Swiss private bank manages over CHF 373 billion in Asia and has 1,077 client advisors in the region.
