Citywire unveils five newly rated managers based on their risk-adjusted three year performance in Asia

In November, a total of 14 managers runnning funds that are registered in Asia received their first Citywire ratings.

Citywire Manager Ratio: 0.79

Judy Leong made her debut with the highest manager ratio of 0.79.

Leong joined Maybank Asset Management Singapore in 2013 and specialises in Asia local and hard currency fixed income investments.

She has been managing the Maybank Asian Income fund since its inception in 2014. The fund is benchmarked against the JP Morgan Asia Credit Index and was ranked fourth out of 77 funds in the Asia Pacific hard currency sector over 12 months.

Currently, the fund has overweight position in short-dated investment grade corporate bonds of less than one year and  underweight position in high yield bonds.

Citywire Manager Ratio: 0.44

Another debutant is Joe Elegante, who is the deputy head of global and sustainable equities at UBS Asset Management. 

He manages the UBS (Lux) Eq Fd - Gl Sust. Innovators (EUR) P fund, which was incepted in June 2001. The fund is benchmarked against MSCI World Small & Mid Caps

Elegante is also a senior portfolio manager on the company's range of global sustainable strategies, including sustainable, impact and long-term themes.

Citywire Manager Ratio: 0.30

Alastair Bishop joined BlackRock in 2010 and co-manages several energy and resources funds.

One of the contributing funds to his A rating is the BGF Natural Res Gro & Inc A2 USD fund.

The fund, which was incepted in April 2011, is benchmarked against the S&P Global Natural Resources Index.

Citywire Manager Ratio: 0.25

Kenglin Tan has joined Manulife Asset Management since 2006. She is responsible for analysing and selecting stocks for the firm’s Asia Pacific ex-Japan, and the Asean portfolios.

She started managing the Manulife Global Fd-Asian Equity A fund since April 1, 2016.

As of end-September, the fund’s largest overweight holding was Ping An Insurance and its largest underweight holding was AIA.

The fund is benchmark against MSCI AC Asia ex Japan Index.

Evan Ouellette is a managing director and fixed-income portfolio manager at Wellington Management.

He focuses on strategy implementation and portfolio construction with an emphasis on emerging local debt.

One of the contributing funds to his A rating is the Wellington Emerging Loc Dbt Adv Beta USD S Acc Unh fund.

Over three years to October 2018, the fund posted average total returns of 11.5%, against the sector’s average of 6.35%.

The fund invests in a diversified portfolio of emerging markets local currency denominated sovereign debt securities.
