Franklin Templeton hires EM CIO

Franklin Templeton hires EM CIO

Franklin Templeton Investments has hired Manraj Sekhon as chief investment officer (CIO) for emerging markets equity, the company announced.

Sekhon joins from Fullerton Fund Management, where he served as chief executive, CIO and director, responsible for driving the business strategy globally.

Prior to that, he served as director and head of international equities at Henderson Global Investors.

Based in Singapore, Sekhon will report to the head of equities, Stephen Dover, and oversee the emerging markets equity teams across the organization.

Commenting on the hire, Dover said: ‘As part of the next phase in the evolution of our emerging markets teams, we are pleased to bring on a leader who I am confident will best leverage the breadth of our investment talent across emerging markets equities to deliver the high quality investment strategies and performance that our clients expect.’

Last month, the asset manager appointed Woon Pin Chong as Asia Pacific managing director for its Franklin Real Asset Advisors (FRAA) division.

He comes from Savant Global Capital, where he was managing director, focusing on investments within Asia.

This comes after the appointment of Avinash Satwalekar as Malaysia country head and chief executive officer of Franklin Templeton Asset Management.

Satwalekar relocated to Kuala Lumpur from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to lead the firm’s retail and institutional distribution efforts across Malaysia.
