Industry veteran Stephen Chang will join Pimco this May as executive vice president and portfolio manager.

Based in Hong Kong, Chang will take on a leadership role across Pimco’s Asia portfolio management team and the firm’s fixed income portfolios in Asia.

Chang has 22 years of investment experience. Most recently he was managing director and head of Asian fixed income at JP Morgan Asset Management. During his tenure, he grew investment portfolios across Asia-dedicated mandates.

In his new role, Chang will report to Rob Mead and Tomoya Masanao, both managing directors and co-heads of portfolio management in Asia Pacific and, to Mohit Mittal, managing director and portfolio manager based in Newport Beach.

Emmanuel Roman, Pimco’s CEO and managing director said Chang’s hire is an essential part to grow the group’s portfolio management capabilities in the region.

‘We see significant potential for growth in our Asia-Pacific business and will continue to add targeted resources there to support our expansion efforts,’ he said.

Currently, Pimco has 139 investment professionals in areas including private strategies, client analytics, emerging markets, mortgages, real estate and macroeconomics.

It is looking to further expand its team with 200 more hires this year.

“As we see strong growth momentum across many of our businesses and functions in Asia, we will continue to add and invest in talents in areas we could better support and deliver values to our clients,’ Pimco told Citywire Asia.
