Walewski hires ex-JPM veteran for bonds push

Alken founder Nicolas Walewski is to push his boutique into new territory by hiring former JPM AM manager Antony Vallee to spearhead an expansion into bonds.

Citywire + rated Vallee, who left JPM AM in February after 12 years, will join as a partner and head of fixed income on 4 May.

It is understood that Vallee will form part of four-strong investment team. The first funds for the new unit will be launched later this year.

Commenting on the hire, Walewski said this appointment marked a large departure for the firm, which has focused on European equity since it was launched in 2006.

‘Anthony brings 20 years’ experience in manging multi-billion euro fixed income portfolios with an excellent track record,’ Walewski said. ‘Our €5 billion European equities team remains unchanged and in a very strong position.’

During his time with JPM AM, Vallee oversaw several global convertible bond funds. He also previously worked for Credit Suisse as a special situations analyst.
